Brief Description: This collection consists of diaries written by Maria (Becker) Warkentin, starting January 1, 1905, and continuing until her death, June 29, 1943.  The diaries were then continued by her daughter Anna Warkentin until March 24, 1977, shortly before her death on June 2, 1977.  All entries are written in German through 1955, and in English from 1956 through 1977.

Biographical Note for Warkentin, Maria Becker (1867-1943) :

Parents: Johann Becker (1838-1895) married to Aganetha Nickel (1846-1905) on Feb. 11, 1864 in Rudnerweide, Molotschna.

Birth: July 1, 1867 in Rudnerweide, Molotschna.  Second of 13 children.

Migrated: May 26, 1878 on the Strassburg.

Married: Dietrich Warkentin (1866-1951), a farmer originally from Molotschna, in Mountain Lake, MN, May 24, 1888.

Children: She bore 13 children in Mountain Lake from 1889 to 1912, all surviving except one.

Death: June 29, 1943 in Mountain Lake, from a heart attack.
