Daniel J. Fisher was born in Wellman, Iowa to John J. and Amelia Shettler Fisher.  He married Ida May Miller on November 5, 1903.

Fisher served as a minister and bishop in the (old) Mennonite Church, serving East Union Mennonite Church in Kalona, Iowa.
