Scope and Contents of the Materials

Photographs, ephemera, and other miscellaneous documents pertaining to C. Miford Paul's Civilian Public Service (CPS) work at CPS  Camp No. 45 (Luray, Virginia) and CPS Camp No. 28 (Mederyville, Indiana) and his service to the United Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (UNRA) as a "seagoing cowboy" in 1946.  Although not thoroughly labeled, the photographs are the richest documentation in this collection.  Paul made three voyages with UNRA, sailing on the Henry Dearborn (March, 1946), the Frederick Howe (April, 1946), and the Mount Whitney (August, 1946).  Most photographs of his work as a seagoing cowboy depict his final voyage.  Included among those photographs is a color print depicting a number of volunteers on the ship, including Paul.
