Edna Quiring Cook Schmidt, 92, died Sunday (Aug. 15, 1999) at Friendly Acres Retirement Community.

She was born Nov. 20, 1906, in Canto to Peter P. and Anna (Reimer) Quiring. She married Walter J. Cook March 14, 1946, in Halstead. He preceded her in death Aug. 5, 1977. She married Elmer W. Schmidt May 21, 1982, in Goessel. He also preceded her in death July 11, 1990.

She received a bachelor of science degree from Bethel College [1939] and was an elementary teacher. She lived in Pratt for many years, moving to Goessel in 1982 and to North Newton in 1990. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Firsrt United Methodist Church in Pratt.

Survivors include: one brother, Otto Quiring of Newton; three sisters, Hilda Ratzlaff of Goessel, Bertha Friesen of Newton and Ruth Boese of North Newton; three step-sons, James Cook of Glendale, Calif., Robert Cook of Pensacola, Fla., and Harold Cook of Pratt; two step-daughters, LaWanda Schroeder of Chandler, Ariz., and Frances Dirksen of Marion; 21 step-grandchildren; and 23 step-great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by one son, one sister, one brother, two step-sons, two step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be 10 a. m. Thursday at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church in rural Goessel with Revs. Jim Dunn and Mark Wiens officiating. Graveside services will be 3 p. m. Thursday at Greenlawn Cemetery in Pratt with Rev. Kendall Utt officiating.

Friends may call from 1 to 9 p. m. Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home in Goessel.
