Historical Note:

Ruth Ressler was born on June 5, 1906 to Jacob A. and Lina Ressler, Mennonite missionaries serving in India.  She attended Millersville University, earning a teaching degree, and taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Huntington Township, Pennsylvania. 

In 1949, Ruth Ressler and her sister, Rhoda, began missionary service in Japan.   They then served the Mennonite Board of Missions in Kamshihoro, Hokkaido (Japan) from 1953 to 1966, establishing the first Mennonite Mission kindergarten and the Kamshihoro Mennonite Church.  From 1966 to 1974 they continued to work for the Mennonite Mission Board as an English teacher in Japanese schools and universities in Osaka.

She returned to Ohio in 1974 and remained very active in the Mennonite Church.  She died in 2001.
