Mennonite Youth Choir Festival | Mennonite Archival Commons

Name: Mennonite Youth Choir Festival

Historical Note: In 1992, Lola Gingerich, Jennie Kauffman, and Rosemary Rupp planned the first Mennonite Youth Choir Festival. The festival, which is held in Goshen, Indiana, intends to teach young people from grades 3 to 8 the musical language of faith and help develop a love of music. Representing 20 to 30 Indiana-Michigan Conference congregations, approximately 150 young people learn songs in their local settings in January and February in order to come together for a concert in March. Musical selections include Mennonite hymns, songs with text from the Psalms, songs about biblical characters, and songs by Mennonite composers.
