Historical Note:

Born 4 Oct 1866 in Gnadenheim, Molotschna, Russia. Parents Heinrich Richert and Anna Schmidt. Migrated to United States in 1874, near Goessel, Kansas. Baptized in Alexanderwohl church.

In 1891 he went to Darlington, Oklahoma, as "Oekonom" or mission farm manager. Then he worked for the government Indian agency. Returned to Kansas in late 1893 or early 1894.

Attended the "Methodist academy" in Winfield, Kansas. Fall 1895 entered Bethel College. But left college to take over the family farm upon the death of his father.

Married Sara Quiring in 1903. Moved to Newton in 1910. Worked for Mennonite Mutual Insurance Company, eventually became president. Various other committee and board positions.

Died 21 April 1928 in Newton, Kansas.
