Name: Sudermann, Jacob (1909-1980)

Historical Note:

Jacob Sudermann was the son of Amy Greaves Sudermann Enss and Jacob Sudermann.  Of English and Russian Mennonite extraction, he was a long time member of Prairie Street Mennonite Church in Elkhart, Indiana.  He earned a B. A. in History and German from Goshen College in 1932 and an M. A.  in Germanic Languages and Literature from the University of Michigan in 1937.  In August 1933, he married M. (Mary) Hilda Byler.

Sudermann taught for several years at Goshen College.  He then secured a position at Indiana University - South Bend, where he served on the faculty from 1947 to 1977.  Sudermann died in 1980.
