Historical Note:

Lores E. Steury was born in Berne, Indiana, on July 25, 1922, to Christian P. and Emilia (Habegger) Steury.

Lores grew up working on the farm in Berne, Indiana.  In 1943 he was drafted through Selective Service and did work in Denison and Council Bluffs, Iowa, Fort Collins, Colorado, and Wisconsin.  After the war ended he volunteered on a Heifer International cattle trip to Greece.  Upon returning, Lores was excommunicated due to problems with church leadership.

Following this, Lores worked as a caretaker at Camp Mack in Milford, Indiana for six years.  He then moved to Goshen in 1976 to work as groundskeeper at Goshen College, where he manned the weather station. He retired on June 30, 1990.

Lores E. Steury died December 12, 2008, in Goshen, Indiana.
