Name: Andreas, Johann (1802-1877)


Historical Note: Born September 8, 1802, in Klein Mausdorf, West Prussia. Parents were Cornelius Andreas and Agnetha Giesbrecht. He married Helene Fast about 1837, and Anna Fast about 1842. Children who survived to adulthood were: Helena (1840-1912; married Peter Penner), Johannes (1843-1917; married Justine Goossen), and Wilhelm (1847-1923; married Catharine Claassen). He was elected elder of the Elbing-Ellerwald church in 1846. He resigned as elder in 1869 in the midst of the controversy over military conscription. He migrated to the United States with other family members in 1876 and died five months after arrival in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, January 11, 1877. He is buried in Beatrice, Nebraska.
